All D-Backs Podcast: Feb. 19th from Salt River & Is it Time for an Extension?

by Hayden Hughes
2/21/14

Hayden and Nick visited Salt River Fields on Tuesday, February 19th. They then recorded a conversation discussing what they saw:
  • Archie Bradley looked good...really good. The guys drooled a little bit.
  • Most starters (pitchers and hitters) looked ready for Spring Training games to start.
  • The impact of Miguel Montero and the team's dependency on him succeeding in 2014.
  • Chris Owings, again, working hard to make the team this Spring.
  • Kevin Towers was on the phone in golf carts next to CEO Derrick Hall and owner Ken Kendrick.
    • We're probably looking WAY too much into that
      • or is that exactly what the D-Backs would want us to think?!
Then we discuss Homer Bailey's extension and what that means for the D-Backs and one of their own.
  • Things started out well...then they ended poorly.

Non-baseball Programming Note:
An abrupt end to this podcast was inevitable. The communication was just poor. Probably our most contentious conversation on record, but that happens. From my perspective, I don't think we were on the same page and I think there was a misunderstanding in terms of communication on both ends. We are obviously fine now - no hard feelings. We ended the day with a handshake and hug so all is good again. There's just moves that should have been made in my opinion and there's a correlation between what the Braves have done this week, and what the Diamondbacks could have had next offseason that is now no longer possible.

We apologize for the abrupt end but there wasn't exactly a smooth sailing with our conversation. We've been friends for years and years, and we're continuing to improve with this project. Ultimately, this is about baseball and the Diamondbacks, and I can't speak for Nick, but for me it really feels like we started to take away from those two things and it became about us, so I've cut out the last 15 minutes of our conversation.

Hey, Mike Wilbon never agrees with Tony Kornheiser and that machine is well-oiled...

As always, we have some bloopers. They're great.
