Spring Training is here! Soon exhibition games will begin
and rosters will be finalized in preparation of Opening Day. The Diamondbacks
got an early start to their workouts in preparation of their early season start
on March 22nd in Australia . Also, the High Heat Podcast would like to wish Dbacks CEO Derrick Hall a happy birthday. Here are some links discussing Arizona
this spring:
- In the wake of Freddie Freeman’s massive eight-year, $135M extension, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic writes that the five-year, $32M extension Paul Goldschmidt signed last season may be most team friendly deal in the game. In his article, Dbacks CEO Derrick Hall says that reworking Goldy’s deal is not out of the question and “There’s different ways we could do it. We could add on. We could tear it up and start over.”
- Despite a seemingly full rotation, GM Kevin Towers “went out of his way” to tell MLB.com reporter Steve Gilbert that Archie Bradley still has a chance to make the Opening day roster.
- Gilbert also notes discusses Diamondbacks’ plan to have five outfielders and how that will shape the Opening Day roster.
- Mark Trumbo is working on improving his all around game in an effort to prove his critics wrong and show that he is not a one-dimensional player. He has received rave reviews from his Goldy and manager Kirk Gibson so far this spring.
